From our home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Front Country provides no-cost backcountry ski and split board training, avalanche certification, and peer mentorship that equips veterans with skills they can carry for a lifetime. Every veteran who joins Front Country becomes part of a community built on the belief that no veteran should navigate life's challenges alone.

SHRED Therapy is a week-long wilderness wellness clinic that teaches veterans the skills needed to safely travel in the backcountry. Participants receive professional instruction in avalanche safety, terrain assessment, navigation, route planning, and uphill and downhill travel while exploring the mountains surrounding Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Designed to channel veterans' natural drive for challenge, competence, and self-reliance, SHRED combines technical mountain education with peer mentorship in a supportive team environment. Participants earn industry-recognized avalanche certification and gain transferable skills applicable to outdoor recreation, natural resource management, search and rescue, guiding, and other mountain-based professions.
As the world's only nonprofit providing veterans with no-cost backcountry ski and splitboard education, Front Country creates pathways to lifelong recreation, continued mountain education, and meaningful community connection. Through partnerships with mental health and wellness organizations, participants are connected to additional support services when needed. Membership in the Front Country community extends well beyond the clinic through ongoing follow-ups, regional peer networks, mentorship opportunities, and continued access to resources that support long-term well-being and personal growth.

Our specialized SHRED Therapy program is a vital reintegration tool for veterans, restoring purpose, camaraderie, and joy. We proactively address mental health concerns, including suicide prevention, recognizing it as a leading cause of death among veterans. Our goal is to support veterans in reclaiming agency and wellness through Wilderness Therapy, regardless of financial, social, or logistical barriers.
